I got sort of carried away with this guy's 'do.  He looks like the spawn of some '80's hair band drummer.

He's at the shop.  Take a look!

New Dolls!

NewDolls for 2013, now on sale at my Etsy store!

Sunday, April 3, 2011

Well, I knew that the first Power-Up lunchbox was pretty flimsy, but I didn't expect it to be unusable by the second day.  Matt undid both zipper pulls while he was closing the box after lunch,  not too surprising given how tenuously the thing was sewn on.  I knew that recycled zipper was going to be trouble.
So here's the new improved version.  Not too pretty, but it's built like a tank.  The sides are heavy denim backed with a stiff stabilizer, the interior is a thinnish silver vinyl (70% off from Joann's remnant bin- woot!) quilted with heavy batting for insulation, and the front panels were saved from the original.  I'm glad I tried this, if only because I've never tried any heavy duty sewing on my cheap Singer and now I know the machine can handle much more than I thought it could.  Buffalo leather toaster cozy, here I come!

Hope the boy likes it!

Almost Ready for Etsy....

Finally finished the clothes!  Hopefully I'll get one of these posted to Etsy by tonight.

Actually, now that I'm looking at the photos, I think I'm going to have to get some better shots.  It took me days to get the details on the diapers right, and you can't even see them.  Grrr...

More later!

Matt's New Power-Up Lunchbox

Matt's old lunchbox finally bit the dust last week, so he asked me to make him a new one based on those power-up boxes from the Super Mario game.  Pretty clever idea!  My finished product is constructed from foam and duct tape and some recycled hardware, and frankly, it doesn't quite live up to the boy's inspiration.  I'll probably give this another shot with more durable fabrics when I get the time.

At Long Last, Some New Work

I dropped the ball on this blog!  But I'm getting back into sewing, and I've got some new dolls almost ready for sale.  When I was visiting my parents over the summer my mom dug up this pattern I hadn't seen in years.  What a treat to see this again!

Still have to put together some outfits, but they should be ready by the beginning of the week.
Next up:  bunnies!

Another Day Another Kitteh

So much for my drawing a day, but at least I finished another cat! This one is sweet; I love the fabric scraps I used for the ears. It's hard to tell, but the floral pattern is very deep and dimensional. This is the girliest of all the Kittehs!

I didn't realize until I looked at the photos how obvious the Territory Ahead logo is on those buttons. Hmm.

This weekend I'm going to be busy doing a storyboard test for Nick. Wish me luck!

Been watching a lot of Mad Men.

Cutesy-Pootsy Post

I didn't forget! A drawing a day, quality and/or content be damned.
This was a sketch for my Etsy banner, but it's too big and too... I dunno, cloying maybe?
Anyway, I made some unbelievable cranberry orange breads last night for the in-laws. It was torture getting them boxed for mailing. So delish! I'll be making more over the next few days for my mom & pop, so I'll post some pix and the recipe, too.

Some Good News on a Rainy Day

So! I finally sold a cat at Etsy! Yay! And I finally finished the last four pusses I've been slogging through for the last couple of weeks. Here they are:

This one's my favorite cuz he's such a freak!

And here they are arranged in a funereal tableau, saying a fond adieu to their comrade as he prepares for the long trip to Calgary. So long Hodge (#8)! I hope he's a happy surprise for his new owner!
Matt's made it clear he's going to miss him. "Great, that was the only cute one," he told me with great bitterness as I was boxing it up. Too bad! Go clean your room!

Anyway, I'm going to give the kittehs a rest and instead focus on drawing for my portfolio for a while. I'll post some of that as it comes down the pike. I'm shooting for a new drawing every day-- I think that's been my yearly resolution since 2003, but it's going to happen this time! I swear it!
